Cabinet to hear proposals to replace ‘Triple Lock’ mechanism for Defence Forces missions

Tánaiste Micheál Martin will seek Cabinet permission to scrap the “Triple Lock” and change the approval process for Defence Forces missions.

Mr Martin, who is also the Defence Minister, confirmed late last year that he intended to change the mechanism which states that Defence Forces missions must receive Government approval, Dáil approval and a UN Mandate from either the Security Council or UN Mandate.…
